What does Orange Beach inspect?
The City of Orange Beach currently lists the following equipment and documents for its golf cart inspection:
- A valid driver's license
- Proof of liability insurance
- Headlights mounted no higher than 36 inches
- A rear-view mirror and windshield
- Brake lights and operable brakes
- Front and rear turn signals
The city states that a cart that misses a requirement will fail inspection and will not receive a permit. Confirm the current inspection process and fee directly with the city before making plans.
Where may a permitted cart operate?
Orange Beach says permitted carts may operate on designated cart streets or multi-use cart paths. That is narrower than permission to use any public road. Check the city's current ordinance, maps, and police guidance for the exact route you plan to drive.
Is a golf cart the same as an LSV?
No. A municipal golf cart permit and a state-registered low-speed vehicle are different legal paths. Alabama's administrative rules distinguish a low-speed vehicle from a golf cart, and state registration requirements apply to an LSV that qualifies for a restricted plate.
Ask which vehicle category you are considering before relying on words such as “street legal.” The category, installed equipment, registration or permit, insurance, licensed driver, and permitted road all matter.
What does “street-ready equipment” mean?
